About Us
History
Our story starts way back, started far back in March 2007 with personal support from the Founder Mrs. Farma and her Husband Mr. Ken Farma to indigenous church organizations to help orphans and destitute, street and unaccompanied children, widows and street beggars
CHRISTIAN HANDS ON WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN NEED (CHOWCHIN) is Right Based, Non-Governmental, Non-racial Organization that encourages all to serve humanity through development programmes that promotes Gender Equality and Rights, Women Empowerment, support upbringing and welfare of targeted less privilege’s Children and Women. Community.
Our focus is to sensitize and educated the public and other stakeholders on the need for Gender Equality, Quality Education and sound moral upbringing for our Children, Economic Empowerment of Women including Widows and less privileges members of our society
- We promote Gender Equality and Rights through the following:
- Popularisation of Gender Acts in Sierra Leone.
- Advocacy against Child and Forced marriage
- Sensitisation on benefits of Customary Registration of marriages
- Promotion of Sexual Rights Education and alternative Rights of passage as against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
- Empowerment of Women through Skills Development, Business Training and Access to Finance.
- We Promote innovative WASH and Environmental Management and Development through the following:
- 1- Provision of Safe Drinking water in Public and Private Places. The latter includes, Schools, Health facilities and Markets
- 2- Promotion of improved hygiene practices through Advocacy and Provision of decent and modern toilet facilities in School, Health Centres and Markets for the health living of the users
- 3- Advocate and Promote Infection Prevention and Control through provision of improved health facilities in the country and extensive sensitisation of citizenry to embraced infection prevention guidelines
- 4- We promote for Economic Empowerment of Women, Girls and local farmers through Climate Smart Community Farming
- 5- Support environmental protection through Advocacy for clean environments, Tree Planting to control deforestation activities and address the adverse effects of climate change as well as promoting food security in the country
Achievements
- 1- July 2023 – July 2023: Educational support and Enrollment for 72 Vulnerable and out of School Children in the Western Urban District of Sierra Leone.
- 2- January 2023 to may 2023; 50 Vulnerable Women were supported with Training on Backyard garden, Seed and Tools to improved their livelihood
- 3- July 2023: 3 Schools were Donated with School Furniture’s to enable them Support the Vulnerable Children
- 4- April 2024: Training of Women Farming Groups in Freetown and kambia on Village Saving and Loan Scheme as a means of accessing financial services to support their economic activities.
- 5- The visit of MOPED Representative to our office in Kambia Town.
